gibson guitars are the finest i've ever owned and played. i've owned 72' sg standard, an 82' les paul custom, 82' rd artist. i got into playing two fender super twin reverb amps and playing out of two digitech gsp 21 legends at the same time. i do it now at times when i want or need a really fat heavy sound. i do fender now alot. 3 strats, a bullet, and a late 80's squier II stratocaster. i do most of my work on the squier ii these days. it's a great little work horse !

Salguine, I own numerous guitars and yes, while the Ric is a nice guitar, it is temperamental, doesn't like to stay in tune and not nearly a fraction as durable as a Les Paul. Not even close. This isn't even debatable.

Never been a gibson fan. I have seen some $6000.00 gibsons and the worksmanship has been attrocious. I have seen better on $1000 guitars. I find with gibson as well you arnt getting anything spectacular you are just buying a a name. Same with Marshall.

@ubacam well you're kinda right and kinda wrong. I was at some generic guitar store the other day ( guitar center I think) and I spotted to gibson les paul standards (not melody makers) for 580 a piece. Now the pick ups may not be as good, but my dad and I do alot of custom guitar work so we just swap them out with retro ones and put on new tuning machines (I dont remember the brand it was like kroger or something german) and BAM! an awesome les paul for less than 700 bucks.

@FinnsterW gibson's at cheapest are 800, and the cheap ones have worse pickups than that epiphone, so if you get a good gibson it will cost anywhere between 1 thousand and 1500 with good pickups..... if you want an american made gibson.... well..... you better save up now haha

@stratct Check your facts wood is not the same, Gibson uses Honduras Mahogany last I had heard Epiphone was using NATO, The electronics and craftsmanship are much better on Gibson's than Epiphone. The first Les Paul was a Gibson that's why Epiphone even though it's owned by Gibson is still considered a copy.

I once played a 1957 gibson and it felt like magic in my hands...I bought a 58 reissue in 1982...and it wasnt the same to me as that 57...but a fine solid guitar...the epiphone is definately not even up to that...but you can buy one for $50

I got Epiphone Les Paul Studio limited DX edition $606 retail now going for $350 at guitar center. I got mine for $300 brand new on ebay. Many say Epiphone sounds as good as or better than Gibson.... but now I want Gibson Custom. hahaha.

@bollockart i own three epiphones two sg's and one les paul and my dad has a gibson les paul in which i play all of them when i have a gig ... and yes they are very similar in fact the epiphones are a little better as far as playability but depending on your music style you may want to change the pickups ... you could get a gibson paul for roughly $2000 or you could buy an epiphone and replace the pickups for anywhere between 300 and 600 for a guitar at or above gibson quality ... your choice

The fake ones?? Man if you guys ever knew what Gibson does. They have a factory in Shanghai, China where they're making Gibson guitars. And I'm not just talking about Epiphone either. Btw, they did have contraband wood. It was Madagaskar rosewood bought through a German supplier who in turn, bought it from African poachers. Those trees are also protected because an endangered species of lemurs live on them. Most of us are better off buying older Gibsons I suspect!

This guitar is somewhat good for students and people that want to learn how to play guitar in a way. It tunes up for itself, that can be handy for someone to know and remember the exact sound the string is supposed to make for each tuning mode. I think this and all robot guitars are great, they just need to be less shown. I mean, Gibson needs to stop making only robot guitars for a time and anounce more regular guitars. i think its a good idea. of course the most amazing gibson guitars dont have this feature and of course, a player that could afford this technology might be able to tune by ear but imagine a concert situation with lots of songs in lots of different tunings. i think this would be the more elegant solution than bringing six guitars, changing and retuning after every song. my opinion

I submitted the self tuning idea to Gibson in a guitar magazine contest several years ago along with interchangeable pickups. I kept a letter of this but never patented the ideas. Guess I learned a lesson. Maybe Gibson would give credit if it were really due? It's possible they had the idea before I did but it came out only after that particular contest was published. I didn't win the guitar by the way.

i dont know why people hate this guitar soo much, its actualy quite handy... its a high quality guitar and flips through many tuning wicked fast... i definitly would own one when i play on stage , but i already got 4 guitars for diffrent tunnings. i could sell them and buy a robot guitar. but i love them too much.
